British royal palace officials say the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge will attend her first public engagement since her hospitalisation for acute morning sickness.
The engagement (this morning, NZ time) will also be the former Kate Middleton's first public appearance since the death of a nurse at King Edward VII Hospital who was the victim of a prank call by an Australian radio show.
St James' Palace revealed overnight (NZ time) that the duchess will attend the BBC's Sports Personality award show in her role as official ambassador of the UK Olympic and Paralympic teams and present the main award and lifetime achievement honour at the celebration of sporting accomplishments.
She has not been seen in public since leaving King Edward VII Hospital in London on December 6. At the time, officials said the duchess would be resting.
