If you're struggling for inspiration for things to do this weekend, take a look at this snapshot of free (or fairly wallet-friendly) activities from around the country. It's not comprehensive and it's something we're looking to expand, so if there's something fun, free and family-friendly happening in your neck of the woods then let us know.
It’s Auckland Anniversary Day on Monday, so make the most of the long weekend.
If you fancy a market, check out the Mission Bay Art and Craft Market, which will feature around 200 stalls of art, craft and food.

If you’re after some free entertainment why not head to the 13th annual Auckland International Buskers Festival? Acts include an acrobatic cyclist; stuntman, contortionist, escapologist, clown and a sword swallower. Performances will be taking place all over the CBD, including Viaduct Harbour, Downtown Westfield, Vulcan Lane, Wynyard Quarter and Princes Wharf. It’s not called the city of sails for nothing, so why not mark Anniversary Day by checking out Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta. The harbour will be teeming with sailboats, tugboats, dragonboats, dinghy sailors.

That kiwi classic, the A&P Show, is in Rotorua this weekend. As well as plenty of animals to look at the kids can entertain themselves with races, wagon rides, a climbing wall and much more.

The first round of the New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Championship will be held on Lake Taupo. Laps are run close to shore to give spectators a fantastic view.

Take advantage of what is supposed to be fabulous weather this weekend and head along to the Interislander Teddy Bears Picnic. A huge, free, family event featuring fairies, clowns, face painting, rides, songs, dances and prizes – and of course, teddy bears. Bring your teddy bears and a picnic blanket. The Mother Goose Kids’ Market is taking place right next to the teddy bears picnic spot. The market features stalls selling items for babies through to teens. There will also be live music, face painting, kids’ entertainers, craft activities and food.

The teddy bears are also picnicking in Motueka this Sunday. There’ll be face painting, sports and a bouncy castle.

Family-friendly tetertainment tailor-made for kids this is part of the World Buskers Festival.
